When thinking on modern house designs, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? See how SAOTA and OKHA Interiors created stunning modern home you won’t forget so easily.
SAOTA and OKHA Interiors designed De Wet 34, a residence which offers one of the most beautiful modern house designs out there. If you’re the fan of luxury modern architecture of course. De Wet 34 house is located in Bantry Bay, an affluent suburb of Cape Town situated on the slopes of Lion’s Head and overlooking a rocky coastline, in Western Cape Province, South Africa. Bantry Bay is surrounded with Sea Point and Clifton suburbs where SAOTA’s amazing Clifton 2A and Nettleton 198 houses are located.
Modern house designs have perfect location
De Wet residence with its modern house design offers quite incredible architecture to live in. Even though two of four floors are “buried” below the ground floor, they still offer incredible ocean views, thanks to the hilly terrain on which the house is built. Creatively called “under water atrium” (because they are literally built beneath the swimming pool), those two floors housed playroom, gym and bedroom. Floors above the ground are imagined to have distinct identities. “The Family room, placed on the mountain side of the courtyard garden, provides for cocooned living while the double volume Living and Dining area on the sea side is more dramatic, with its rippling concrete feature fireplace wall and commanding views. This ocean fronting section is a soaring space anchored by concrete and rock – a five-tonne cocktail bar of rough-hewn granite holds down one side of the living space” – states SAOTA’s press release.
Interiors that define house designs
Even though modern house designs with open floor plans like this one don’t have clear boundary between interior and exterior living space, interiors of De Wet house are something to admire and learn from. Raw concrete and stone walls shape the living space while timber and glass created unique atmosphere, fulfilled with stunning ocean views. The biggest star of this home is definitely incredible high ceiling living room. With the pool terrace to the west and central courtyard garden to the east, it seem to be more roofed outdoor space than closed room inside the house we are used to see. The only “wall” between those spaces are tall sliding glass doors which can be opened completely.
